Lab4 Probiotics launches at Vitafoods Europe 2025
20 May 2025
On Tuesday 20th May 2025, we officially launched Lab4 Probiotics onto the global marketplace at Vitafoods Europe in Barcelona and hosted two highly successful events to support the launch.
Dr Nigel Plummer, Lab4 Probiotics founder and CEO, presented a summary of the brand, its history, research and efficacy, in the Nutraceutical Showcase Theatre. Dr Plummer explained all you need to know about our proprietary Lab4 probiotic blends and the research-backed benefits they provide for the human microbiome and a wide range of health conditions.
We were also joined by more than 50 customers and Vitafoods attendees from around the world for a drinks reception at our stand following the first day of the exhibition, and enjoyed a couple of hours sharing drinks, snacks and industry information.
Lab4 Probiotics was first established as a live bacteria blend in 1999, following five years of research by Dr Plummer and his team, identifying, isolating and studying probiotic strains and their impact on the gut both individually and in combination. The four strains in the original Lab4 Probiotics consortium were shown to offer synergistic benefits when used in combination and all met the required criteria for growth, safety and commercialisation.
Since then, we have developed three other probiotics consortia that form part of the Lab4 family - Lab4B, which has shown specific benefits with babies; Lab4P shown to have metabolic effects, including weight loss, alongside improvements in immune health and quality of life; and Lab4S, which combines Lab4 with the probiotic yeast, Saccharomyces boulardii, a combination that has been shown to support the gut microbiome alongside antibiotic use.
Together, the Lab4 family has been used in more than 35 clinical studies since 1999 and we continue to dive into the ways in which the microbiome in general and the Lab4 consortia in particular, can help to support health outcomes in people of all ages.
